The EU has joined the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, following approval from the Council of the EU. The EU’s accession to the Convention is a boost for EU efforts to realise equality between women and men.

The European Council has reached an agreement with the European Parliament to update the rules against overfishing. The new rules modernise the way fishing activities are controlled to ensure EU vessels and those fishing in EU waters follow the regulations set out in the Common Fisheries Policy.
