Spotlight on youth in the EU: the Committee’s pioneering Youth Test initiative is gaining momentum

At its May plenary session, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) called on the EU institutions to include young people’s views in EU policies on a regular and systematic basis. With just one week left until the European elections, the EESC has stepped up its own youth engagement by urging youth organisations to take part in the EESC Youth Test. Designed to strengthen the voice of young people in policy making, the "EESC Youth Test" call for applications will be open until 30 June.
The Council adopted a regulation to completely ban the use of dental amalgams and to prohibit manufacturing, import and export of other mercury-added products.

Spearheading the European Union’s judicial response to the war in Ukraine, and digitalising criminal justice, were at the heart of Eurojust’s work in 2023, and will continue to be so, says the Agency’s Annual Report, published today.
In an unprecedented operation against aggressive and dangerous computer malware, authorities in the European Union and beyond have taken actions against droppers including IcedID, Pikabot, Smokeloader, Bumblebee and Trickbot, which infiltrated computers via emails. The measures focused on disrupting criminal services through arresting suspects, the freezing of illegal proceeds, and taking down botnets, coordinated by Eurojust. The operation, which was carried out this week with support of Europol, is a follow up to the successful takedown of the Emotet malware system in 2021.
Today, the Council formally signed off on the withdrawal of the EU and Euratom from the Energy Charter Treaty, while allowing for its modernisation.
The Council has adopted a regulation amending the rules governing medical devices and in-vitro diagnostic medical devices, with a view to preventing shortages.
