Just a few days after the 2024 European elections, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the EU’s national Economic and Social Councils met to discuss the state of play of the ongoing digital and green transitions. Their conclusions: organised civil society is clearly instrumental in helping to remedy the shortcomings.
The Council has agreed its negotiating position on a revision of the 2009 directive on European Works Councils. The new rules aim to improve the effectiveness of the framework for informing and consulting employees of large multinational companies operating in the EU.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has updated its Independence Policy, further strengthening the measures it has in place to manage the interests of the scientific experts and professionals with whom it works and to guard against undue influence. The new policy includes targeted revisions based on a thorough review of the 2017 policy.
