The European Investment Bank (EIB) is extending a €207 million credit to the City of Zagreb in Croatia for infrastructure upgrades critical for the Croatian capital’s sustainable development.  The financing marks the EIB’s first loan signature with the City of Zagreb. The credit is the initial tranche of a €395 million EIB framework loan to support the city’s development in the next five years.

On 1 July 2024, 180 leading experts joined the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) scientific panels for a new 5-year term. EFSA’s experts provide independent scientific advice to protect EU consumers, animals and the environment.

The Hungarian presidency of the Council of the European Union starts on 1 July. In the domain of Justice and Home Affairs, the Hungarian presidency has set out five priorities: the fight against terrorism and organised crime, trafficking and smuggling of human beings, illicit trafficking of cultural goods, environmental crime and cybercrime.

An online platform known for facilitating various crimes was taken down by the French authorities, in cooperation with Bulgaria, Germany Lithuania, the Netherlands and Hungary. The authorities had been investigating the digital platform since December 2023. During an action day on 24 June the servers located in Germany were seized and disconnected and over EUR 5.6 million of criminal funds were frozen.
