An investigation into the migration deal between Italy and Albania has won the 2026 Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize. Journalists Giacomo Zandonini, from Italy, and Maite Vermeulen, from the Netherlands wrote the story. The prize is a tribute to journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, assassinated in 2017.
The 2026 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought has been collectively awarded to the International Criminal Court and its officials. With the award, the European Parliament ‘recognises the Court’s important work in upholding international law and justice’, said President Roberta Metsola.
