The 2025 fire season was the worst on record for the European Union. Satellite-based analysis from the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre show that more than 1 million hectares – equivalent to approximately the area of Cyprus – were ravaged by fire across several EU countries.
New rules will help better protect taxpayers and depositors by broadening the scope of banks covered by the EU’s laws on bank failure. They also empower authorities to manage potential bank failures more effectively and harmonise depositor protection across the EU.
